I'm replacing the water pump on my 64 550 gas and once I had it off and ordered the new one, I started trying to figure out how to get the pulley and fan off the old one. Is it pressed on or do I need to open the pump and release it from inside or what? I've got yhe owners manual, but no shop manual, don't want to screw something up! THANKS for any input

There are four 5/16 inch bolts that hold the fan on and also the pulley if it is a steel pulley. which in 64 it should be. You need a 1/2 inch box end wrench. It will be a piece of case and the lean the fan toward the radiator once you have the bolts out. Questions?

so much for simple got the new pump today, no pulley, fan comes off easy enough with the four bolts but the pulley is another story, looking at the new pump, looks like the hub for the pulley to bolt to is pressed on and sealed, I tried a "bearing" type puller which seems to be what you would need but don't think it could stand the pressure, I'm lost, again!

The hub that the fan and pully is bolted to is pressed on.But a new or rebuilt pump will have one on it.

ok, that makes since, the bolts on the fan were really rusted so I sprayed them with penetrating oil and hadn't tried them yet, guess that would have answered my question ,huh? thanks guys, sounds like I will ok once the pump arrives.
