Managed to get our oats and some peas/tritical in the ground today, 1600 at the helm. She remembered her place just fine on the front of our drill(JD VanBrunt) and I got about 10 acres in.

Sorry, no pictures. Didn't have time trying to beat the sunset. I'll be sure to get some when planting corn though.

Don,
Isn"t it great to hear the roar of an Oliver engine again in the warm spring air. My 1755 made me feel like a kid again.

You guys are making me jealous. When I was a kid I was an irrigator on a dairy farm. The only tractors I got to drive were JD3010 hauling silage wagons. The older guys ran an 1850 diesel with the chopper. The only time I ever got to drive it was across the yard to the fuel pump and when I pulled away from the pump I turned the front wheel across the fuel hose and broke it from the pump. That ended any hope of ever running the chopper with that Oliver. 30 years later it still bugs me; maybe I'll have to buy one of my own :)

Keep smiling and take it all in. It really is a gift from God to be close to the land.

Don- I know just how you feel, last spring I planted around 45 acres of new hay ground with oats as a cover crop with my 1850 dsl and IH type mf drill, which all performed well without any issues. Made me feel like a young kid again after my first tractor ride 40 odd year ago. Already the alfalfa is about 14 inches high and looks perfect, hope we get some rain in northern Indiana soon we need it. Hope your oats do as well.-Ken

Good to hear you got it back to work. We got our oats coming up here in SE Minnesota already, and today we were planting corn with dad's 1650. Good times...

It'll be a little bit until we get the corn in yet, but it'll come soon enough. On Saturday I dualed up the 1855 and a couple days before that I put the duals on the 285 for hauling manure on the corn ground. Still got lots to haul, but once you get at it for a good weekend it flies pretty fast (literally!!). Once we got the 1st crop off we've got 2 feilds that need to be turned under and put in corn. I don't like the idea of having to take atleast 1 dual off the 1855 then put it back on, but I guess it could be worse...

Reminds me of being a high schooler back in late 60's / early 70's. Dad's 1950 "jimmy" ran dual duty - One brother plowed at night and another brother field cultivated during the day. My job was to put on the dual and hook up the field cultivator before school in the morning and take off the dual and hook up the plow when I got home from school that afternoon. Did it nine times in ten days that spring, Got a break on Sunday.

Well, I guess it ain't that bad then... I'm still a young buck so I can still move them around pretty decent. Not quite as easy though as a 18.4-34...

The peas are just a forage mix w/ tritcal, and a little bit of oats thrown in the mix too because I was runnning short (set the drill a tad heavy) I"m getting axious to see some new seed popping out of the ground soon!
