I have a 1650 gas that I've had for about a year now. Last summer when using the hydraulics for the loader, the loader bounces when lowering it. Over the winter the bouncing was gone and now that it's warmed up again, the bouncing is back. I should add that I get this same bounce when using the rear remotes on the springtooth too. I only have the problem when contracting the cylinders, extending them they are smooth. I am wondering if switching to a heavier weight fluid would help. I am currently running Fleet Farm AW 46 Hydraulic Oil, should I go to a AW 64 or do I need to adjust the retrictor valves. I believe they are turned in all the way already. How do you replace them?

Here is a scan of the Hydra-Lectric Stop system cover for the remotes on your tractor.
First you should have the base end of the cylinder attached to the outlet directly below the location for the restrictor as shown, you should move the lever forward to lower the cylinders.
Have you or someone had the restrictor assembly out of the cover? Perhaps some of the parts have been lost. As you can see in the drawing, as oil flows out through the interlock ball it forces the plunger back against the spring, thus nonrestricted flow during extension of the cylinders. The screw has a tapered end on it, thus as it is turned in further the opening becomes smaller. Now when oil is returning from the base end of the cylinder (interlock ball is held off it's seat by the interlock plunger) the plunger is held against the seat by the spring and flow of oil. Perhaps some material has become lodged between the plunger and seat.
You can carefully take the assembly out to check for all the parts and anything that has become lodged. Remember that there is a passage below the spring area where the connector is between the cover and base. If parts fall off, they drop down into the base cored passage. You can retrieve them by taking off the outlet pipe in the base unit and getting them with a magnet. I assumed that you have the Hydra-Lectric cover, a depth stop cover has the same restrictors, however they are both located in the rear passages in the cover.

Thanks for the advice. I have everything hooked up right and no I have not had the restrictor valves out myself. I will check them out and see what's going on in there. Does AGCO sell replacement parts for them or do I have to go aftermarket?

My answer would be NO, but read my reply below. Questions?

I'd start with adjusting the restrictor valve with no load on the cylinders. After adjusting try the loader and see if it helps. It may take some fine tuning as you only want to restrict it enough to eliminate the bouncing. If the relief valve buzzes at you you've gone to far -back it back out. If this doesn't help you can also put a auxillary restrictor valve inline. The manual shows these adjustments.

Most likely: In theory you want flow from the pump to push the load down not the weight of the load. That is why when you speed it up it works better as more oil is comming to the rod ends of the cylinder. My boy has an IH with a loader that will do the same thing. It does not have an adjustment, Since we maybe use the loader maybe 10 times a year depending on how much is snows I don't worry about it. If need be, I can find a flow control in my tool box which resticts flow one way and allows free flow the other, so if you want a seperate adjustment that is what you need to add. Questions?

thanks for the reply, this bouncing problem happens with all implements, not just the loader. How can I correct this.

Look At Mr. Starrs scan and adjust those adjusting screws in. This may be 3-4 turns or more. If you have questions find me on the hpoca form and we can talk about it. Did you read the cause of the bounceing?
