My Oliver 550 leaks transmission fluid. It pours out the bottom plate where the adjustment for the PTO is located. Someone said the case may be broken but I see no cracks on the outside. I really want to get this rusty 550 back to life. Any comments as to the possible problem will be appreciated. thanks for your time.

A tool can be made using 2' black pipe and welding or brazing 2 tabs [3/8 w 1/8 thick and 1 1/4 long. This works like a charm. Using the hammer method it tears the nut and torque to re install. It's simple I could send a picture if needed.

Jake, thanks for the info. I sure would appreciate a picture of your tool as you described for the PTO on the 550.

You’re leak is probably the seal behind the PTO clutch. As for the tool I do not know were to get one, the company that made them sold out and the new one does not make one. They do make one for a Ferguson they say will work, but its $120. If you’re careful you can use a punch and hammer. I would suggest the I&T manual.

Neighbor had one with the same problem. We fixed it for him. Was a seal where the pto clutch pack is located. Requires breaking the tractor in half and one special tool to take the pto clutch out. A I&T manual shows how to do it. Hope this helps.
