I'm looking a Dozer sitting in the goldenrod. I was told it was a Cletrac. I found that it was a flathead 6 cyl. Gas, with "Oliver" cast into the manifold. There was a tag on the Righthand side of the engine, near the rear. Hard to read but I came up with 1667799 and JXD. A good size 8ft blade was on it. I was told the block is cracked. Maybe from freezing. Any ideas as to the make and model? Or do you need more to go on?
Thanks.

I believe what you have is a BGS. They were built from 1944-up until they were discontinued. Oliver bought Cleveland Tractor Co. in 1944 so most of the engines after that had Oliver cast into the manifolds. The tractors also had both the Oliver shield logo on them as well as the Cletrac logo for a few years until the Cletrac name was finally dropped. Any tractor models carried over from Cletrac to Oliver remained almost identical as Oliver continued on with Cletracs' designs. If you go to a site called Kline Antique Tractors you will find some info on engine and tractor model and serial numbers. BG and BD (desiel) models were and still are quite popular so getting parts should not be much of a problem.

Oliver bought Cletrac (Cleveland Tractor) about the time of WW2. This is an Oliver/Cletrac crawler. It uses many parts interchangeable with the Oliver tractors of the same era.

The Cletrac was a very advanced design and for many years was an extremely tough competitor for Caterpiller.
