Since the Oliver factories had been producing aircraft components during the war, they had acces to aluminum, thus some of the war and after tractors used it.
They had a lot of complaints of those components cracking. A letter was sent out with the offer to replace them with steel components.

Mine is a 1946 was told that after the war Charles City Iowa where they were made could not get steel, My side curtains are like new they are also aluminum along with the fuel tank holddown straps. The back curtains are also aluminum, the grill is steel. My father in law bought this new in 1946 at Lake City Iowa.

I have an aluminum hooded 60 as well. How bad is the hood? Mine has some cracks, but is probably fixable by a good body man. I am not, but I am going to have a friend repair mine.

For the other gentleman: same 60's came with aluminum hoods during the war when steel was scarce. I don't know exact years - mine is a 41/42 and has aluminum hood and clutch covers - of course the side covers are long gone.

Regards, Tip

I think I might know where one is. There is a place in Bellingham Washington called Meridian Equipment that I remember seeing an aluminum hood in the salvage yard. But I don't know if it was for a 60. I don't know the history on those.
