I looked at one today so I checked the archives but there wasn't much on this disk . Any notions on it's current value in the 20 ' size with furrow closers ? It's in fair condition as it needs a few blades but little else it looked like . Bearings are good . The hydrualic lift ( I'll call it a " plate " ) attached to the wheels looks like it's been cut and poorly fabricated with a torch but it appears like it will work just fine . It's got some rust and I never checked the blade spacing . Any opinions ? Thanks ....Randy

I have an original brochure on the 263/265 Oliver disk. The 265 that I own is an 18' total width tandem disk and advertised as an extra heavy duty with 150# weight per blade. The 263 your talking about has hinged "wings" and is advertised as a heavy duty with 125# per blade. Appearently they were introduced around 1968 with the 2050 and 2150 as that is what is coupled with them in the brochure. They are the same disk but the 263 is wider. The 265 I have is a great disk for breaking hard ground and I'm even able to pull it with my 1950 GM Diesel MFWA with ease. I don't know what the disk in question is worth but my experience from previous auctions has tuaght me that some folks assume its a Deere because of the green paint and pay more than its probably worth. Otherwise its a dependable disk thats easy to get bearings for if needed.

Hi , Do you think a 1755D ( single wheel with liquid ) will pull it on fresh plowed somewhat sandy soil ? All I really want is a smoothing disk but GOOD smaller disks with 7-1/2" spacing are either expensive or hard to find . So I found this one at an auction yard , it's in pretty good condition but has 9" spacing . I have a krause #4 13' disk but it needs a lot of help in the bearings .

I don't know if I did the math right but at 125 lbs per blade and assuming 56 blades that's about 6700 lbs of disk in the ground . So will a 12,000 lb tractor move it very far , very deep or very fast is the 64 dollar question . Thanks for the info ! Take care ...Randy

it'll probably be too much. the draft is much heavier when disking sandy or plowed ground. my 1755D pulls a 14' jd disk easily, but in plowed ground it will load it pretty good. I'm not saying it wont pull it, but it will really buck and paw the ground. i'd keep looking, it doesn't take much longer to use a smaller disk, you'll do a better job(higher ground speed), and it will be much more enjoyable (peace of mind that you're not pulling the guts out of a very good tractor)

Well , you guy's had me convinced that it was to big and I wasn't going to try for it BUT the bidding slowed way down at $250 and it was me or the scrap buyer so I ended up with it at $300 . I re-measured it a little better and it's a 18'er . It's got 4 really good 11L-15 implement tires on it if nothing else . Maybe I can use it or maybe I can't but I shouldn't lose to much on it if I sell it . Thanks ! ...Randy

Randy,
I worked for an Oliver dealer in Charleston, Illinois for eight years from broom, to set-up, to mechanic. I was a blockman for White from 1976 to 1980. You got a great buy on an excellent disk. However, if you try pulling it with you 1755 I think you will be disappointed and also overtax your 1755. It will live a long and happy life pulling a 15' 263, but you're going to lug the heck out of it with an 18' disk.
You're much better off with one size to small than one size to big. You can then find the gear that you do a good level job of disking. To fast and you'll ridge, too slow and you'll pull the guts out of your tractor and do a poor job. Try it, maybe you've got an exceptional 1755, but if it won't cut it, trade it for a smaller disk.

Hi Dave , Thanks ! Yeah , I agree that it's probably to big . I didn't know for sure but everyone on three different forums agreed that it is , so I am a believer . But it's mine now so I'm thinking of just removing the wings and storing them and just using the 12' mainframe if it won't pull it right . From the people I know around here an oliver disk like this isn't worth much more than a tin can . Most of 'em said I paid why to much for it . And I live just 18 miles south of Charles City where Oliver's were built . But Deere and IH are the top sellers around here when it comes to older equipment . That's why the 16' IH 470 went for close to $800 and a trashed JD went for over $500 . So if I try to sell it I may not recoup what I paid for it . But before I take it apart I'll try to sell it . Thanks again . ....Randy
