Hey guys what should the compression be for each cylinder on the 310 Diesel? I am getting all my facts ready for when we tear into this thing.

Thanks
Mike

Before you tear into this do yourself a favor and take a cylinder leak down test. You can probably make yourself an adapter out of a piece of .375 steel tubing. Compression should be close to 350 at cranking speed. Questions. I sent you an e-mail. Let me know if you did not get it. J.

Re: 310 oily exhaust ports in reply to J. Schwiebert, 03-21-2006 12:32:42
Hi Guys
I took off the turbo tonight and the exhaust manifold. The exhaust ports are carbon filled about 1/4 inch thick at the bottom. Looking in I can see shafts sticking down(valve stems?) The question now is 2 of them appear shiny (brass) and the rest are carbon covered. I cranked it with a jog of the starter and looked again. The shiny ones were cruddy looking now the same as the rest. If a valve was stuck shouldn't it run rough. I cranked it some more and the 3 that were leaking the oily crud all puff smoke bad compared to the others...Suggestions?

Hey Mr Schwiebert,
No I didn't get your email. Darn filters. I guess try to send it to [email protected]. I will check for it again tonight.

What part of the country do you live in? I am in Ohio.

Thanks,
Mike
