There are a couple of posts below concerning poor running engines, even after overhaul (cylinder head work). The valves are a large % of the surface of the cylinder head. If valves are recessed too far into the cylinder head the combustion chamber is too large, makeing compression too low. This Service Bulletin has the specifications for the valves projection.

This bulletin superceeds two earlier bulletins. The first one is # 430 536 dated 10-7-72 & second is 430 724 dated 6-12-75. The earlier bulletins were confusing in that they were written with a view of the cylinder head on the engine. In fact the technician would be working on it upside down on the bench compared the the position on the engine. If you want these engines to start in cold weather and run clean under light loads, this is the information that you need. You may have to replace both valves and install seats to get to the proper deminisions. There are Oliver part numbers in the system to lower the injectors deeper into the combustion chamber. You need thinner spacers under the nozzle and the spacer under the hold down clamps need to be thinner. This will maker them start easier, however if you are going to use it under heavy load for prolong periods of time, it will geratly reduce the nozzle life.

Reis: I just sent you an e-mail. The valve must protrude. That is one reason you have the compression problem
