My 1600 has antfreeze in the oil. I have the pan off and also the timing gear cover. I was going to replace the front seal.Is it posible for the head gasket to be the problem.I have filled the block as full as I can with antifreeze and plan to look for leaks at bottom of sleaves.Any suggestions??? Thanks, Cedric

It is not likely that you will see any leaks by just taking the oil pan off. You will have to pressurize the radiator in order to see where the leaks are coming from.

More than likely, it is the "O" Rings at the bottom of the cylinder sleeves. Remember that leakage is going to pass from the high pressure vessel to the low pressure vessel. Since the lubrication pressure is higher than the cooling system pressure, I don't see how anti freeze would transfer into the lube circuit in the head gasket area. The crankcase pressure is almost 0 PSI while the cooling system pressure is slightly higher (runs quite high with the thermostat closed and then drops when it opens) that leads us to believe that the "O" rings between the lower part of the sleeve and the crankcase are the problem.

I don't know a lot about that tractor but I know engines. It could be a head gasket, cracked head, cracked sleeve or sleeve seal. Bad thing is some times unlessthe engine is warm where the problem doesn't show up.
