When I went to neutral the power from the engine kept turning so I couldn"t shift back into gear so I turned the tractor off, when I started it back up everything worked ok. The 1655 has a over/under Hydraul. And it wasn"t the linkage as I had more clutch travel. Must have been in the Hydraul?? Any adgustment?

It has worked ok maybe 100 times since the problem and I have about an inch more travel on the clutch after it disengages now but it looks a new pressure plate sometime. Thanks to all who replied.

I think you might have answered your own question or am I not hearing what you said. : more travel"? Is that saying you have more free travel in your petal now? How much free travel do you have? Does the petal have the same amount of firmness? Do you have an organic or a button clutch? Serial number might help if everything is the same as when it was built. Remember the clutch has to disengage before the chain coupler stops. Could be in the pressure plate or even a pilot bearing starting to tie up. Questions?

I had the same problem with my 1850. I don't know if the 55 series is the same but there is a grease zerk on the top of the flywheel housing. Give it about 3 or 4 shots with the grease gun and work the clutch back and forth. This may be a simple fix. If that doesn't work you may have bigger problems.

I had the same problem on a 1650 & the springs on the pressure plate went bad. It felt like stepping on mush when stepping on the clutch pedal. Just got done a couple weeks ago with replacing the clutch & all is much better.

Your post is kinda vague to me- could you repost your problem a bit clearer? Thanks

The chain conector was still turning and the gears would grate so I couldn't shift into gear. Thanks for any help.

I'm no expert here, but it sounds like maybe your clutch is bad.
