Oliver 550 3-Point Lift Question

I noticed over this past weekend that my three point lift handle (quadrant lever, or whatever it"s proper name is) will fall on it"s own if it"s half way or LESS raised. It doesn"t matter if the tractor is running or not, and it doesn"t matter if the lift is up or not. Just move the handle half way up or less and it"ll fall back down in just a second or two.

I started the tractor and laid my finger in front of the handle and let it fall against it. The lift stopped moving. I loaded a bushhog on the lift and did the same thing -- the lift operated like a champ -- wherever I put that handle, the lift goes right along. The handle just falls down if it"s not more than half way up.

I got nosy and tightened the nut on the bolt that the handle is mounted onto. I just made sure it was snug basically -- it barely even moved. Now the handle is tight, stays where it"s supposed to and all is well.

The question is: Should I be worried that I have a larger problem, or should I not have turned that bolt? Gut feeling says all is well, but I need to rely on someone else"s brains because alas mine has no idea.

Thanx guys!

You did the right thing. It will be fine. You need a Oliver 550 manual.

Dang my brain! Told ya I needed help! I bought some Oliver Manuals online in PDF form -- the big Shop Service manual or something.

Forgot all about having them on the home PC! Again, thanks for replying, AND thanks for reminding me that I have some resources -- just need to remember I have them!

Thanx,
Matt
