Does anyone use the Cummins 4B or 4BT as a replacement engine?

What is a far price for a decent running 4B or 4 BT?

Someone mentioned they use the 4BT in panel trucks. Linked to Allison or GMC transmissions?

Is the 4B a reasonable engine to consider with refits?

Actually White used those engines in their american series tractors the 60 and 80 and they worked very well. You do not say what size tractor you wish to put them into. I would think that they would work well in an 15-1650/55. Cost would be between 2-3000.00 for a good used one, in fact there are some on e-bay right now.

From what I've heard, they can be used but then the fornt end is way too light and needs to be held down with weights. The radiator also has to be moved forward as well as the sheet metal to cover the radiator. It can be done but a 6 would be much easier.

Also, I've heard of some people adding large chunks of steel in the empty section of the tub to add weight as well.

We had Cummins put into both our 135 and 155 Whites. These were 6 BTA's. We have used the 4BT's and 4 BTA's for irrigation. Both start good in cool weather, are very fuel efficient and have lasted (15,000 hrs) on the first one. I once saw a 1955 with a cummins ,but it was a 6.
When a rod went out on our 1755 we almost put in a cummins 4 BT, but decided to stay with a Oliver engine.
