I have my 77 Oliver broke down and the cover of the trans. My question is I would like to know if there is a way to take the belt pulley ( whole cast iron chunk) off. Can I just remove it, is there a seal in it , is there a different part I have to have to put back in place of it. or does anyone have a diagram of this. Thanks in advance for any help. Here is what the manual says:
When the pulley assembly is removed from the tractor and the tractor is to be operated without it, the oil passage from the transmission to the pulley must be plugged. On 77,88, Super 77 and 88 Series tractors, the imput shaft front bearing retainer must be changed for a retainer with oil seal. Also, shere 77, 88, Super 77 and 88 Series tractors were not equipped with a reverse idler bore cover or a multiple reverse trnasmission, the cover must be installed along with a gasket if the transmission is drilled for a reverese idler gear.

To prepare the tractor for operation with the belt mechanism removed proceed as follows:
a. Pry the clutch coupling spacer off the input shaft and remove the input shaft searl which is under the spacer.
b. Remove the snap ring and the pulley drive stationary gear from the input shaft. Reinstall the snap ring.
c. Remove the input shaft front bearing retainer on 77, 88, Super 77 and Super 88 Series tractors and install a new oil seal on the input shaft.
d. Install the clutch coupling spacer over the oil seal and stake the spacer in place with a punch between the splines on the input shaft.
e. INstall an input shaft bearing or oil seal retainer assembly over the input shaft. Use new gaskets when installing therse parts.
f. Install a new input shaft front bearing felt washer over the end of the input shaft and next to the oil seal in the retainer.
g. Connect the clutch shaft to the input shaft awith the clutch coupling.
h. Install a 1/4 inch standard headless slotted steel pipe plug in the oil passage from the transmission compartment. Place a sealing compound on the threads on the plug before installing to prevent leakage.
i. Install a reverse idler bore cover and oil seal on 77, 88, Super 77 and 88 Series tractors if they are not already equipped or if the tractor is not equipped with a multiple revers transmission and the rear main frame is drilled for a mulitple reverse idler gear. (see figure 10-472)
j. On Row Crop 66 and Super 66 tractors, install a 1L-1018 Rear Panel Cover.
K. Install the rear panel assembly, hood, clutch compartment doors and hood side door assemblies.
