I am confused can someone explain in the 15xx,16xx,17xx,18xx series of tractors did Oliver use Oliver engines, Waukesha engines, or Perkins engines. Which were the best or most reliable? I am new to Olivers and confused about the engines in this series of tractors. Thank You

Well, all of the above. The enigines were cast by Oliver, and finished by waukesha. The 1850 Deisel was powered by a Perkins 354, Nothing to do with oliver until it was ready to be dropped in. They went back to Waukesha for the 1855 because they wanted to cut costs.

BA Starr and J. Schweibert know more than I do and they may respond.

The 1850 model carried the Perkins engine the rest had the Waukesha. Most will say the Perkins was the best engine.Their were problems with the 310 cid Waukesha diesel but they came with updates to improve their reliability.
