Ok here's the backround. We completely overhauled a Oliver Super 77, we painted it up and put all new wires in it. Now we took the starter in to make sure it worked and got it fixed up and everything. We have a new battery and hooked it up pushed the button and nothing happens. We were at Fleet Farm today and went by a switch and thought we would pick it up. Put the new one in, pushed it and the switch started smoking. What's wrong?? Thanks
scott

Probably 40 years ago I had a problem like that on a Super 88. We had the instrument panel off of it and painted it before we put it back on the tractor. The problem was I did not have a good ground through the paint. Find a good clean bare bolt and put a jumper cable on it and the ground terminal of the battery, see once what hapens. Other than that get your volt meter out and see where you are at.
