I have a 1951 88 diesel row crop and want to add a hydraulic unit to it.I noticed a previous post on input shaft lenghts and idle speed problems. What do I need to do to make this swap and will it work ok?

It will work fine. First of all what type of cover is on the transmission now?

It has the mechanical lifts for cultivators. This tractor has been in the family a long time and has a rigged up hyd pump running off of a narrow v belt pulley where the normal large pulley should be. The side panels won"t fit with this rig and we"re trying to do a full restoration. thanks for any info.

the oliver shop manual talks about this conversion. Proper way is to pull the input shaft out and cut it off shorter. The pto shaft drives the hydraulic pump instead of the trans input shaft. On my 66 I pulled the pto shaft out, stuffed rags in the transmission and used a 4 1/2" grinder to cut the input shaft off in place. I then flushed the trans out drove it about 1/2 hour and changed the oil, next change was at about 10 hours.
Good luck
Ron
