Other than the serial number what are the differences between the '52 and '53 Oliver 88?

What is the matter? Won't your Massey out pull the Oliver?

Sounds to me like, if you can't beat him, you have to eliminate him one way or another.

I agree with MCB however you did not mention serial numbers. An early 52 may not have disk brakes where all 53 models will That is the biggest difference I can think of.

I wouldn't use the disk brakes vs. the band brakes as a true indication on the year; many of the older tractors were retrofitted with the later disk brakes. Most tractor pulling clubs will let any year of a specific model tractor in, as long as that model began production prior to the cutoff date. That might be something to think about adopting in your club. As far as the 52 vs the 53, there really is no differance and one would not have an advantage over the other. I suggest finding something else to worry about, there is usually a lot more "wrong" with tractors at the pulls than this.

The current owner is unsure of year and it is missing the serial number. Our club does not allow '53 and newer to pull so I want to make sure it is a '52. Thanks for the reply.

Curious why they would choose 52/53 as the cutoff- can't think of any change to any tractor make between those years that was significant. Most clubs allow up to 1960, so all the 2 cyl. Deeres can pull.

That has been the rules with the club as long as I can remember. '53 to '60 can pull in an "open" class but not many participate in this class.
