The seial # plate on my 550 is damaged and has been painted over. There is a line that says Serial Number with a number above it and what looks to be a number below it. Which is the serial number? if above, my partial number reads either 5-0021 or 6-0021. Is this the serial number?

The number you gave is part of the spec. number and is on the first line. The number is a 5. The serial number is on the bottom line.Questions?

The numbers below it read 567-519. The part of the plate before the 567 is missing. What does the 519 signify? How else can I identify the year of this tractor

The 519 is the code number for the transmission. Behind the starter are three casting numbers. The will start with the first 3 numbers being 180. I would like those three numbers. Also the engine number is stamped on the other side of the block in one of two places depending on the age of the tractor. It will be on the vertical right rear flange or stamped in the front in the area the generator was. How about those 2 numbers also?

The three numbers behind the starter are:

180220-G
1LB-100-B
1157

The number on the right side of block on the rear vertical flange is:

1061387

Thanks for your help in this.

You can get close to the year, Questions , do you have the metal slotted grill or the fiberglass one. where is your PTO lever ? is it back by your hyd lever on the side of your seat or is it forward by your brake pedals? the Oliver name plate on the front of the tractor, is the oliver red or black, do the decals on the hood match the same design as the front name plate ?

There is no white grill. There is a square wire mesh in front of the radiator. If there was a white grill it was removed to accomodate the front loader. The only decals are the ones that say 550 on either side as the others were taken off during painting. I called the guy I bought it from to see if he has them, but no answer yet. The PTO lever is a long handled thing to the right of the seat.

What do the oliver decal colors signify?

The 550 decals are smaller, more blocky straight up and down than the larger, somewhat forward slanting ones I"ve seen in the pictures.

YOU CAN LEARN ALOT ABOUT THE 550, JUST TYPE IN 550 IN THE SEARCH ON THIS FORUM, THE DECAL COLORS DON'T REALLY SIGNIFY ANYTHING , BUT THE EARLY 550'S HAD DIFFERENT DECALS THEN THE LATER ONES
