Ok. gentlemen, does the hydraulic pump on the Oliver S 77 need to be primed, and if so how do you prime it.

I filled my sump up to bottom of line on tip stick , do not have any fluid coming out of either lines. I am assuming the forward line is the pressure and the rear line is the return.

Thanks for all info and advise

Keith & Shawn

Hi Keith,

Shouldn't need to prime the pump its gravity feed. Is the fluid staying at the same level? Might have bad seals in the pump and the fluid is draining back to the Transmission. Does it make any noises when moving the Hydraulic levers?
Do you have a Hydraulic gauge you can hook to the pluming to see if there is any pressure building up when using the levers.
Ck to see if pto shaft is turning at the back end of the tractor W/tractor running. The Super has live PTO on them.

Other possibilty the relief valve might be sticking open. Ck Hydraulic filter to see if its pluged?
Thats all I can think of right now Keith.
I'm going to drag my book out see if I missed any think.
For now Mike

Hi Mike and John,
Mike I disconnected everything coming from the out put of hydraulics, no pressure anywhere.
Someone set this tractor with hydraulic steering.
lever on right is held down with piece of iron welded above it, lines on the coming out on the rightside go up to a directional hydraulic valve which has two lines running forward to a cylinder attached to the front axel. This is what turns the wheels. With no hydraulics you are dead in the water when it comes to steering.

They also removed all factory steering, gear box and everything thing up front!!

Thanks Keith & Shawn

Mike here is a picture of the hydraulic control just under the steering wheel. The two lines on right in picture goes to hydraulic axel cylinder.
Two onleftside in picture come from hydraulic output of tractor.

Keith,
That doesn"t sound good. Sounds like someone kobbled some things up.
I heard of a person tieing into the Hydraulics to do this but didn"t work to well. Espcially when using the other lever at the same as your turning. Need to send me some pictures of this steering set up they have on it.
If I remember correctly did this have a PTO pump mounted on the back for the loader?
Maybe John can jump in here and shed some light on this.
Mike

Hey Mike: HAve you every had a relief valve out? That spring will not make it stick, BUT some of them leak and some of the relief valve seats go bad. How are you? J.

Hi J___,

Doing ok I guess. The Super 77 when I got it didn"t have much pressure. It had water in the reservoir.
Spring was a little week you wouldn"t think so as heavy as it is. I added some spacers in behind the spring and I had pretty close to 800 lbs of pressure. Later I took it all apart and dicided to rebuild it what I could. Put new seals,O"rings Gaskets,Ect.
Back about ten years or more I was told by a fiend that MIABACH Agco dealer in Ohio Had brand new Hydraulic pumps left on there self. Thought of buying one but at hte time was little than What I wanted to pay.
