Dont overtighten the bolts that hold the drum housings on when you reassemble it. It will distort the housings and make the brakes drag.

Are you talking about a 550, Oliver built or 550 Cockshutt built.

Not a major problem. I took the steps off which made it a lot easier to get adjusters off & back on. I would break the three big bolts loose first on the brake castings. Then when you get the brake casting on the bench you won"t have a problem getting them out. Take the outside bolts out & slide the whole brake unit off of the splined shaft then remove 3 big bolts on bench and see what you got. It takes 2 disk for each side. Just make sure when you get brake housings apart polish the 3 sockets where the 3 activating ball sit & operate the breaks.
If you have ant more Questions let us know.

I would agree 100% with what KennyD said, but I would like to add:

A lot of the time when you have no brakes on a super 55 or 550, part of the reason is the pin is frozen in the brake arm.

When you take the brakes apart as KennyD said you will be removing a 3/8" fine threaded bolt from the disks. That fine thread bolt goes threw a 1" pin that is about 3" long. MAKE SURE THAT PIN IS FREE IN IT'S MOUNTING ARM. This is on the left side. On the right side the pin goes threw the brake pedal, but works the same.

Sorry for the long post. But you will see what I am saying once you start.
