we have a 1850 with the setback front it was good up untell the bolts came out of the back backet and the front went up in to the oil pan and busted the block. the perkins is a very fine engine starts very good in winter but leaks oil very bad kepting the engine covered in oil. would not ever of checked the back bolts thinks they would have came loose .

Yeah , my 1850 Perkins diesel leaks oil too , mainly around the valve cover gasket at the back right corner of the engine . i have tried replacing the gasket but does not really solve the problem . I have heard the problem is the dry sleeves in the Perkins engine cause the block to get really hot and deform the valve cover gasket thus replacing the valve cover gasket is only a temporary fix . i have just learned to live with it .

I have a 1555 with regular wide front and a friend of mine had a 1650 with underslung wide front . Advantages of underslung to my 1555 regular wide front - tighter turns and I think a little better visibility at the tire since they are closer to the operator . Disadvantages - rougher ride and tires tend to cut into grass or crop more on turns especially cutting or baling hay . My friend swapped out the underslung for a regular wide front because he was rutting up his hay fields . I have another friend with a 1650 underslung and he swears by it . Just your individual preference .

My short wheel base works well with the loader and in tite places, You can also get alot closer to a truck to dump.

The set back axel supposedly makes shorter turns. Popular on small acreages like found in Great Briton.
We"ve got both styles. I prefer the longer wheel base for smoother ride.
