Just bought an Oliver 1650 with a 1610 loader tractor runs and operates good except the steering
which has problems. Its hydrostatic and sometimes the steering wheel has to be turned a couple of turns to get the wheels to move and at times the wheels will change direction by themselves. Any help on trouble shooting and fixing would be appreciated.

if you have some fabricating skills or like little challenges, get a char-lynn orbital motor out of a massey 410 combine or the same thing from another combine from a combine salvage yard. they tend to cost alot less than the tractor yards and are basically the same thing. just make shure that it is for open center hydraulics. ive done this to some of my 50 series tractors and everyone that drives them loves the steering on them. they even tilt and scope with the fabricating ive done

1600 is an open center hydraulic system. There were a couple of changes in the flow divider on the 1600 tractors. Check the serila number, get back with me and I can tell you more. Questions J.

Your flow divider is the later one. An early plain jane (to me) 1964 gas model I see (3.625 bore motor) Questions

I have a 1600 which does the same thing-my dealer tells me the steering motor at end of steering colum is bad -he says they are not fixable so told me to try at a salvage yard to find a later charlyn unit off of a 1655 etc.not good news but best way to fix GOOD LUCK TPIA
