Folks:

Before I left the country in early December I was able to tear into my 1800C and find the source of the "Banging". I have the tractor disassembled down to the block with all the sheet metal and the radiator off. The the trouble was simply a broken valve stem that dropped the valve into cylinder #3. The piston and sleeve will need replaced in that cylinder.

I talked with the man from whom I purchased the tractor. When the tractor was "rebuilt" about 500 hours ago they did NOT do a complete valve job!!! They did, however replace the rings and the rod bearings. The rod bearings look "pristine" in my opinion.

Here is what I know I will do:

New sleeve, piston, rings in #3.
Complete valve job
Service the Injection Pump (it has some seeping)

What are your suggestions? I know it is difficult doing this from afar.

Jim

Make sure the valves have the right protrusion to aid in starting, I know it makes a huge difference. When they rebuilt it, what did they replace? Just bearings and rings, or did they also replace the pistons and sleeves?
