I just purcahsed a 88 row crop, which is my first ollie. Runs like a top. Checked compression last night, all cylinders pump 140-145 psi. Is this a normal stock reading, or may it have higher altitude pistons. How much power will this tractor make properly tuned.

jon m,
My initial comment is how accurate is your guage?
Pressure guages are not renowned for absolute accuracy. They are a comparative device - to check if all cylinders are similar.
Yours cleary are, but may not be 145psi.
That said, the others comments on pistons, or indeed liner size, could easily be right and the compression ratio altered. So any estimation of power output is only based on original specs and a guess on what might have been changed over it"s lifetime. Put it on a dyno if you are that interested.
Regards, RAB

Well if its stock it sould be around 45HP but an old ollie will out pull a lot of other tractors of the same HP.

My Super 88 has 135 psi per cylinder crowding 65 hp on the dyno at 540 pto rpms.I do have the high compression pistons in it and you probably do too.Pull a plug and get the piston up and look in there with a flashlight and see if it has a dome on on one side of the piston.Mine did.Hope this helps.Jack(TN).

I don't have time to look it up, but I think in stock form it's supposed to make 48 PTO hp. Otherwise it's 43 hp. Don't know about the compression, though.
