I list tractors on Ebay for a friend of mine and we have one that we will be selling soon, but would like to clear up some confusion on it. Is there a way to tell for sure what it is, Coop E-4 or Cockshutt 40? The serial number is 40-5511. I understand that the "40" means the model, but that if it is a Coop it would still start with the 40- serial number. The grille is a Coop grille, but the tractor had been roughly painted and then the previous owner put "Coop 40" on it with reflective stickers like you would buy in a hardware store. Any ideas how to verify what it is? Thank you for any help!

The E4 and the 40 were the same tractors. The E4 was just to be marketed in the US. No positive way to tell what it was. If I had to guess if it had the Co-op nosepiece it was a Co-op at birth, and with a little scraping of paint there may be orange paint under it the red. But it really doesn't matter, doesn't affect the price. It's a 1951 by the way.
