Would a head from an 880 gas work on an Old Style 88 and would it be a good thing to do? Also are new shim adjustable bearings available for the old style crank?

Jim, the original head has a casting # 190002 & K180, The 880 head has a casting # 190302E & 100331A. The 88 block has a serial # 721530 & casting # 190120A K100A. It looks like it has the original rod bearings and they are still in good shape. It has 3 3/4 pistons. Whould they be original? Thanks so much for your help! Dennis

Original bore was 3-1/2 unless they were kerosene burners. Then they were 3-3/4 inch. What is the tractor serial number? The serial number (including letters) will tell you for sure how it was built. Do you already have the 880 head? I have taken fleetline heads and ported them and put seats in them along with valves from a Super which would be what you have with the 880 head. Find me on the hpoca site and send me an e-mail or get me your phone number. I have a few questions for you.

The 88 has sheet metal like a 70 and the serial # is 120891 I could not see any letters but the tag is pinned to the rear housing and was damaged by a bad battery leak. The rod bearings have the marking M190110 You can call me days @ 1-800-717-3232 or eves @ 801-486-9990 I am in Utah so there will be a time change.

Forgot to ask, do you have a block and head casting number Block numbers are by the starter, head numbers are under the valve cover. Next to the thermostat housing will also be a month and year the head was machined.

Define "old style 88" One the bearings I would get the rods reconditioned at a good shop. Install new pin bushings I would probably go with a one piece bushing and then take the shims out and the shop will not need to "cut" the cap or the rod and then hone it to the correct dimension, so much nicer. Just good shop practice. Questions?
