Here's one for all you to ponder. I've got an Oliver that is a true mutt. The front end of the tractor is a Super 88, with a Super 88 engine. However, the dash and rear end are Fleetline. The frame underneath the tractor is stamped Oct 48.
When I bought the tractor last spring, there was a small strip of tin in the toolbox under the seat that had what looked like a serial number stamped on it. If that is the serial number for this tractor, it would be a 1955. Any thoughts on how such a mixmaster might have come to be?

It's got band brakes. BTW, anybody know a good place to get some new bands?

So we know the transmission case was changed.Does it have the brake petal attached directly to the brake? I noticed either the hydraulic handles were changed or they were added after 1958. What is the casting date on the engine(behind the starter)

The brake pedals are slid over a post at the bottom rear of the brake housing. The engine is stamped: 190320 and K100C. Those numbers are located just above the starter.

That is not a super block. I think somewhere I have a serial number for the change. You have what we refered to as the #1(original) band brakes. Does your block have the pad by the distributor for a Hobbs hour meter.

I forgot to tell you but twice when working at the dealership we had a couple of tractors that we had taken parts off etc. It was early winter and we decided ot see how many pieces we had and we put together a super 88 gas we made out of about 5 tractors. We also did that with a 77 once. There is also an 88 around here that is an 880 industrial from the front frame forward. One of the tractors camr from Yoder and Frey. Then you take the parts back and sell them. Questions?

The hood appears to be off of a 1957 or later Super 88 since it has that style of battery box. You said the frame was stamped Oct 48 - but the frame is definitly a Super 88 or 880 frame. I have a 1956 Super 88 Diesel and compared to its frame, yours is an 880 frame. Its quite the mixed part tractor.

Hmmmm. Interesting. I did suspect that the extra-heavy cast rear wheels were from an 880. The only history I know of the tractor is that when I got it, one of the rear side panels had a four-digit number, as if it were a construction or highway department tractor. The hood, battery cover, rear side panels, grills and fenders were on the tractor when I bought it. I also know that it's one of the fastest Olivers I've seen. My wife followed me once in the family car, and reported the tractor did 19 or 20 mph.
