Adam, With the carb inverted and gasket in place, the float should be 1/4 inch above the gasket. With no gasket, set the float 9/32 inch above the machined surface of the carb half. When adjusting (bending) the float arms, carefully use needle nose pliers and remember not to exert pressure on the needle and seat. Also, when reassembling, check to make sure that the float moves freely and does not interfere with the sides of the bowl at any point. With regard to engine temp, you want to see it in the "normal" range when working the tractor. If it is not getting there, check the thermostat. If it tests OK and you are operating in cold weather, you may have to partially block off the radiator to get the temp up. In the winter months, I noticed that my 1650G will make a lot of condensation in the crankcase if I do not run it hot enough. (I stuff rags in the square holes of the cast grille.) As Rab stated, you may have other factors at play here, especially if it has been monkeyed with. However, once you get it straightened out, I think you will come to appreciate this great tractor. Don"t give up - you will persevere! Good luck, Scott
