Just wondering if 1800 or 1900 engine will bolt up to 1855 trany or if frame rails will need to be changed to? 1855 motor took a nap crank couple of pistons plus head needs redone was told 7500.00 to 8000.00 to fix parts and labor. Tractor to nice to scrap was also told about cummins swap any help please.

$7500 sounds a bit steep for a crank and an overhaul kit including head work. Chances are that you'll need a rod or two as well. Rebuilding the 310 should be the easiest course of action. Putting in a salvaged motor out of an 1800 may not put you in any better position, and switching out the frames is going to cost something. If you don't have to touch the pump and injectors, complete overhaul parts including a crankshaft should run about $3500. Then, depending on how the motor failed, you may want the block checked and align-bored, couple hundred bucks at a machine shop. $1500 might be fair for labor, but I've done them for $500-$1000, all depending on how much work you do in advance. You should be able to save yourself some dough if you pull the motor yourself. From there, it's not a bad overhaul to do yourself either.

Is your tractor a gas or diesel?

Any tub from a 17, 18 or 19 will bolt up to each other, can't say if a 21 or 2255 tub would or not. The 1900 and 1950 deisels were powered by screamin' Jimmy's, and a Waukesha block won't go in the tub for the GM engine. The easiest way to put in a cummins 5.9 is to get a tub from an 1850 deisel, they were powered by a Perkins 354 and that's the closest to a "drop in". Shep VA has the low-down on that swap, and the cost could easily go over $10,000 for a good repower, but you could also get lucky and find a 5.9 really cheap. Any Waukesha engine in those series would bolt right up, gas or deisel. I've got about $6,000 in just the engine on my 1600 gas that I rebuilt.

Shouldn't need to swap tubs if going from a 1855 to a 1800. The tubs will swap off of any 17-- through 2255. The 16's have a smaller tub to trans mount. 75, sounds awful high but I don't know where you are and what you can do yourself. I know machine work is not getting cheaper. If you are going to look at swaps, I would strongly consider perkins since Oliver did, but a cummins would last a long time.
