The exhaust manifold on my 1954 Super 88 is in pretty good shape, except that the threads in the top where the exhuast pipe screw in finally gave way to rust. The result was a wobbly muffler, and I was ready to purchase a new exhaust manifold...until I happened to talk to the local plumbing shop owner, who also likes old tractors. He sent me home with a pipe thread reamer to try. I screwed it into the manifold with a pipe wrench (the manifold was off, of course), and lo and behold, it worked perfectly. The new 6" pipe I had on hand screwed into the manifold just like it should, and now my muffler is once again rock solid. Don't know if any of you have tried this, but for me, at least, it saved about $125 or more.
