I have an army surplus herculese engine in an Oliver 2150. The engine plate shows 9-90 as the date of manufacture. What weight and grade motor oil would you recommend using in this engine? It is used daily during the winter and I live in northern Indiana.
Thanks

As simple as that sounds I found that question quite interesting. How many changes have you made to the engine? Does it still use the Military standard oil filters? Is it still the high compression engine? When I taught the diesel head rebuilding classes for Dana (Perfect Circle and NAPA I had a couple of guys from a certain state national Guard unit. They were there to learn how to remanufacture those heads. Hercules send me the specs for the Military engine. You would be surprissed at the little differences. also they have a balanced crank assembly and are very smooth in a tractor, now what governor do you have on the injection pump/ I will send you an e-mail tomorrow and we can discuss the oil.

I"ll let Mr. Schwiebert answer the oil question, but I have a question also. Where have you people been finding these surplus army Hercules engines?
