OK, I think that according to other posts, I have determined that my Oliver Super 77 - spec.# 17-1478 / Serial # 14543-702 is a 1955 and should have green wheels & rims (which it does) but my front rims are "clover white" with green hubs. Am I right on the year and colors? Are the front rims green like the hubs? What does the Spec. # mean? What is the 702 after the serial number? I'm in the midst of restoration now so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Here is a scan of a piece of literature that I had posted earlier, it shows the colors.
Specification number 17-1478, "17" indicates that it is an early Super 77 (late production was "27"). The last four digits is the summary of all of the components that was installed when it was built. At this point, we do not know how to decifer this number. As others have posted, it was built in 1955 per serial number. 702 at the end of serial number is the model and transmission and differential set. "7" indicates that it is in the 77, Super 77 or 770 family. "02" is the transmission and differential or a "C-2". It is the regular speed. It was used from serial number 325 701 in the 77 Fleetline & Super 77 tractors. If you really want to know what components was installed on your tractor, the build date & shipping date and where it was shipped, contact the Floyd County Museum in Charles City at [email protected] and get a copy of the build card for your tractor.

A 1955 model should have all green wheels- what you have there is what alot of Super series models have- repainted to look like later model Olivers. Our Super 77 is the same way- my grandpa had the dealership paint the wheels white to match the 880 that he had bought earlier. Now the red is pretty much showing thru, and if I do ever restore it, it will be original(sorry Grandpa!)
