I just bought a Oliver tractor that runs and works great but I am wanting to restore it and I am not sure of the year. The guy I bought it from doesn't know either he bought it at a state auction and it was painted yellow so he painted it green and used it for a few years. From looking at pictures on the internet I am guessing it is a 950 model it has a split shift 6 speed transmission with 2 neutrals. Can't find a serial number on it but can find alot of part numbers on the tranny and the axle tubes. Has a white fiberglass grille with a long round white emblem with oliver in red letters above the grille. the throttle for the gas is under the steering wheel like my Ford 8N redbelly if this helps? I hope someone can tell me where to look to find the serial numbers and thanks in advance!!!

Ok I got the numbers off the engine block and I took alot of pics today the engine serial number is 1074752 and there where only 3 numbers behind the starter and I took pics of them they are 180220-g 1LB-100-B and 698 Trans has 81 8 and a 56 on the second line. And what is left of the serial numbers tag is behind the cluth pedal but on pieces held on by rivets reamin(no numbers). My uncle has been checking the tractor he says the clutch needs adjusting, the pin that was holding the clutch pedal on is gone and they made something to hold it on so where could I find a pin for the clutch pedal the steering box needs adjusting bad can it be adjusted or will I have to buy another steering box? Also the hose going to the carb is big like the size of a radiator hose and it curves upwards and goes to the air cleaner(air cleaner is round) the carb has a fuel line going into it on the right rear of the carb if you are sitting in the drivers seat of the tractor(i hope I explained that right) if I didn"t I have pics of the hose and the fuel line and where it attaches. I am interested in know if this tractor is worth restoring or should I use it to farm with what do you guys think? If this is a early model 550 (1959 or earlier) what is it worth. I have a 8N ford redbelly that is really tired( motor wore out using a quart of oil every time I plow not leaking buring it) I am in the process of restoring it but i love the look of the oliver and I need a tractor to farm with(what a dilema) I guess I should restore both of them and buy a Ford 4000 to farm with ??

Okay I looked on the left side and behind the clutch pedal on the left side I found 3 rivets with what is left of a tag on each corner of the rivets. I called the guy I bought the tractor from and he said when he painted it years ago he ripped the tags off and threw them away!!! So I took all the numbers I could find off the tractor and I am going to post them here hoping I can find out a little more than I know now, Because I am in need of some parts to keep it running right.Left side of engine (top number)180220-5 (bottom number) 1LB-100-B The trans has some numbers on the left side rubbed almost completely off but I think they are 81-8(top) (Bottom number) 56 Here are some part numbers under the seat on the hydraulic pump? 102125A and on the axle tubes are 1EA700A maybe some one can give me some kind of idea of what year it is? I am needing to fix the govenor it isn"t working and the steering is realy wore out and I need some parts to fix it too. Also the carb could use some new gaskets. But other than that she plows and whatever else I need to do very good. Any ideas on how this transmission works? Sometimes when I go to start off in first gear I am finding it is in third gear. I would love to know how you switch between high and low gears on this tractor as of right now it picks he gear it wants to go in. Thanks for everyones help this site is Really Great!!!

Thanks for the quick reply!!! I have the tractor over at my uncles farm and will be going there tommorow to get the serial numbers. I can"t believe I forgot to post the most important part of the tractor(the engine) It is a 4cyl gas engine with a foot operated clutch(if this matters). It has some great brakes better than my Ford 8N thats going to be my next question what kind of braking system does it have?

I forgot to say ,if the tag is behind the clutch pedal there will be a spec # top line, and then serial # ,second line ,send me the #'s and I can tell you year and model .

sounds like a 550 not a 950. Is it a 4 cyl or a 6 cyl ? A 550 serial # is behined the clutch peddle on the left. A 950 serial # is on the left of the flywheel cover under fuel tank.
