CanI convert a1600 to pos. ground AC delco alternator?

For ease of maintanace and reliability I seek to convert my 1600 gas to a Delco alternator& positive ground.Can this be done?Is it feasible?I am a Chevy person so I have several alternators on hand.Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Roger -

Nearly impossible to convert a standard alternator to positive ground. But it's simple to convert a pos grounded tractor electrical system to neg ground: Simply swap the 2 primary connections at the coil (and if the tractor has an ammeter, also reverse the connections on that).

I converted our 1600 industrial to a Delco alternator about 15 years ago - hasn't given a lick of electrical trouble since!

My question is for Bob M. - I have a 1600 and would like to convert it to an alternator (from the current generator) - how much of a job is it to this and how did you go about it?

Hi Roger
Here are two articles that may help. I am planning to do this with my 1965 550 so please let me know how your conversion works.
I also plan on putting in an electronic ignition as descriped in the 55 article.
