Excuse my ignorance about green because I spend most of my time on the Red site. What is the Power Booster you talk about on the 770 and 880"s? I was watching the RFD channel the other night and they briefly noted the power booster option. Is it similar to the IH torque amplifier? What tractors offered it?
Thanks.
DeWayne

The Oliver 770 and 880 power booster did the same function as the international torque amplifier. The difference is , international"s torque amplifier is hydraulicly actuated. The 770 and 880 torque amplifiers were fully machanical. Other than the 770/880 tractors , Oliver used hydraulicly actuated torque amplifiers.

They functioned the same as the TA, even down to freewheeling in low. The also put a hydraulically operated version in later tractors- either as a two speed ("hydro-power", I think) and 3 speed over-direct-under ("Hydraul-shift", I think). The later versions were a good and trouble free unit, for the most part, but the Power Booster had problems with the sprag clutch and many didn't work on the low side. I had one on an 880 that did work, and the dealer told me to always use the foot clutch when shifting it to reduce stress on the unit and make it last longer. Still worked when I sold the tractor.

The Power Booster was available on the 770"s and 880"s. Some (a few) were swapped into 77 and 88 Fleetline as well as Super 77 and 88 models by the dealers and owners.
