 WOW! in reply to B A Star, 12-19-2005 17:44:26
Very nicely done! My wife will be glad to know I'm not the only Oliver nut out there decorating his front lawn with a tractor! (She'll also probably not like the fact that you've inspired me to go all out decorating next year!)
Incidentally, I used a very soft, non-marring wire to fasten lights to my tractor. Looped the wire around the hood, grill, frame, etc., to hang the lights on. Tires were a bit trickier. I'm sure there are much easier ways, but I fashioned a large round loop of the same wire and used it to hold the lights in place. Of course, the wheel lights come off when the tractor hits the road. I'm hoping the weather will cooperate Saturday night so my son and I can do the Santa's sleigh thing.

I used black plastic electrical tape. You have to have decent paint to make it stick. If your tractor has rusty paint, you need to use fine sand paper to clean off the rust. I made frames out of 1/4" plywood for the hood and lower sides and used fine wire to wire the light sockets on. Also make frames for the fenders, steering wheel and wheels. I used a chasing light set for the wheels, belt pulley, red exhaust and dirt behind the wheels. All the lights in the chasing set appear to have wheels, belt pully, exhaust and dirt moving. Get lots of traffic stopping to look. I think this is the 6th year that I have had it in my yard, long enough that I have had to replace all the light sets because the bulbs faded. It is on a 60 Row Crop, have used a 66 Standard also. I have a friend that has an interesting crawler also, if I can get a photo of it I will post it. PS. the first time I did it I used Scotch tape and the first rain they all fell off!
