Hyd fluid leaks where hand brake rod goes into top of housing. Anybody care to let me know some do's & don'ts. I'm hoping it is just a seal.

I removed the 2" cap on the brake housing, there is a 3/16 (solid)pin just below the adjusting bolt head. Pin sticks out 1/8" but there is no room to get between the back tire & housing. The leak is small if tractor sits a few days I might have to add quart of hyd oil. It looks like hyd line return goes into that housing but I can't swear as to the viscosity(sp) as it is cold in my shed. I will try to post pic's later. I was too busy in warm weather to fool with leak.

If the area behind the cap you removed was full oil then you have an o-ring leaking. That adjusting bolt pushes on the brake piston to set the brakes.

Remove the linkage to the actuating shaft, brake line and the six 3/8" bolts that hold the cover on. After removing the cover, put air pressure where the line goes in and blow the piston out. There is a large o-ring around the OD of the piston and a small one around the stem that sticks through to the parking brake mechanism.

The large o-ring is part #168-491-A, 1/8"x7-1/4" ID, the small one is #E-2167-B, 1/8"x1" ID.

Hope this helps, WB.

How do your brakes work? Could be leaking brake piston seals. I have a 2255 leaking oil into the right brake housing and haven't addressed it yet, but I'm sure that's the problem.

that should not be hydraulic oil coming out where you indicated the leak is. the only time i have seen that in the past was when the hydraulic oil went through a hole in the pan and filled up the rear end. Have you been adding alot of hydraulic oil?
