I just mounted a 5 foot single stage snowblower to my Oliver 88. The tractor has 3-point. However, the PTO, even at full throttle cannot spin the snowblower fast enough to throw even light fluffy snow. Any suggestions?

I forgot to ask, How much snap do you have on your PTO handle? You think maybe your PTO clutch is slipping?

I rebuilt the PTO and there is a good snap and no slippage at all. The tractor is a gas model.

Do you have acces to a tach then to check engine RPM? High idle no load speed 1750-1775 RPM

Have you had a tach on the PTO shaft to see what the PTO speed is? Is your 88 a gas or diesel? You don't have a snow blower for a 1000 RPM PTO do you?

I don't know about blowing snow but an 88 on a Gehl blower will move silage like a wildfire!!

Hey Doug,How tall is your silo? We've been using an OMC & it seems to take alot of HP.We also feed it pretty heavy too.Hate to let the brother with the chopper waiting.~brad

We've got a Kools and a Fox blower that we use, broke in the 1600 on them this summer/fall. That 1600 works really good, especially on the Kools. Both of our silo's are 32-34 ft tall but we could fill higher.

Last year when we borrowed our neighbors IH because the previous Kools threw a paddle,(we were also buying from them) we ended up running our 1855 on it because that thing needed LOTS of HP, our 285 just couldn't keep up.

With my dad hauling w/ the 285, running the 1600 on the blower and me running the 1855 on the chopper, he could keep up pretty good when I was chopping at home but once I was up the road, only way to keep up was with the bagger and a bigger rental tractor (IH 986) to run the bagger once the silos were full.

I laughed at my friend who had his 4010jd/ turbo on his blower and remarked how hard his blower pulled (same as ours) and I told him we were pulling ours with my 88!! Most silos around here were 50 to 60 feet, a few 90's. If the paddles are not close they will pull harder. The old rule of thumb is that they should pickup a nickle and leave a dime.

Yeah, I've heard that before. I've never actually checked what either of ours are, but the Kools seems to be set really good. The Fox we got for $20, and the neighbor who used to own it filled his silo with about a 60 hp Farmall, think it was a 50-60 foot silo, but now it's torn down so I don't know for sure. The Kools we got for $35 this spring and the Koolls we had before that was $50, but it threw a paddle last year, and that's why we hasd to borrow the neighbors IH blower. I forget the model #, but it was about 60-64" band.

The OMC#154 has been a good blower. We fill a 60' with it.An 1800 diesel at PTO.We did adjust the paddles, but it still takes alot of power.Like I said,we feed it pretty fast. The paddles are so close, that some tick lightly! I bought a NH#27,but the bevel gears at turn-table kept giving trouble. It did seem to not work tractor as hard.~brad
