Hi
Just bought a cheap OC3 crawler (no blade),but it needs some TLC.Just need to know about the options for fitting an engine...has anyone fitted a small diesel to an OC3??(currently has a car engine fitted)..Also wondering if steering is normal clutch/brake type,as mine appears frozen??
Any other info/opinions are welcome.Thanks.

Living in an area with Muck and hardwoods and having parted over 100 HG and OC3's I have seen about every engine combo you can imagine. The best done and slickest was i had a customer a Muck farmer that put 25 HP Deutz Diesels in i believe three of his HG's He bought brand new power plants with clutches and put them in looked factory! Another one i had an Chevette Diesel looked good also a nissan gas Then i'v seen Chev V8's Chev&Ford 6's Pinto's Chev iron dukes and a 4.3 Chev V6 . Best to take rear cover off and look inside there before you force anything. Water gets in the tranny&diff and if left long enough can make a mass also will ruin bearing. I sell more Ring&pinion because the pinion bearings layed in water and then failed ruininng the ring&pinion. I have any part you need for those machines email me for a link. Good Luck.

I'm in Australia,so hopefully the dry climate has been kind.Your info is very helpful....thanks.
I once saw an OC3 with a Toyota Landcruiser Diesel in it ...seems like people try all types of powerplant.

JimInOz: Off topic here but where in Australia are you from ? The Company I work for are currently installing a large sawmill in a place called Collie. I think it is near Freemantle. We are haveing a hard time finding certain parts, mostly power transmission type stuff. Also haveing hard time to find a good machine shop that is reasonably close by. Just thought if you by chance lived near by you would know some good sources?? And just my opinion on your crawler, but If it was mine I would try to find an original Herc. for it. I have a HG and it works great with that little 18 horse motor. Besides if you are going to go to the work of restoring it you may as well try to keep it original if for nothing else the resale value. Oh I almost forgot I am from Lindsay Ont.Canada (North of Toronto)Good luck with your project.

No clutch as far as steering just brakes. New it would have had a hercules engine in it IXK or IXB. My OC-3 has an IXB. Over the years there been a lot of differant engine put in them. I have an HG that I'm putting in an Oliver 60 engine in. You might look over at cletrac.org for more info on them. Also Zimmermans has books on them 717-738-2573

Thanks OLD
Are you saying the OC3 has diff steer? The levers on this unit are frozen,so the bands must be stuck.I'm hoping it's not too much drama to fix,but I'm up for the challenge....

Yep its got a diff. Works sort of like the brakes on a tractor but with tracks instead of tires. Zimmermans sells the books on it, got a set of them from him last year.
