Saw the post about the 1600 below.now I always thought that the 1600 was only built one year partly because the 770 ran so late in production and I assumed that the 1600 replaced the 770.Now then my wife has missplaced my serial number book(had to be her I never misplace anything)so I cant look it up but what was the production run on the 1600.

According to my serial number book, 1600 production began in 1962.
1962 serial #'s 124 420 thru 127 043 (1st series)
1963 serial #'s 127 044 thru 137 708 (1st series)
1964 serial #'s 137 710 thru 140 262 (2nd series)
1965 serial #'s 140 723 thru 147 568 (2nd series)

To the best of my knowledge, there were no checker board 1600's made. Anybody know where there are any 1600's with mechanical front wheel assist?

Yeah, they made 'em both--1600 Checkerboard, and 1600 MFWD. Email me if you want a picture of them.
