A few years ago I purchased an Oliver 546 plow. I don't know too much about it. It has 4-16s and is a nice little plow for trimming around the edge of fields and such. I don't see many of them for sale. Seems to be a lot more 565s and such. It is in nice shape and plows real nice. Anyone know anything about it? How old? Good or bad plow for its day? Thanks.

I've got one I bought just last year, it's got a side mounted harrow on it. I bought it for $250 if I remember right needed new shares, shins, and landslides. It's a great plow, but I gotta go to the bone yard and get a new beam for the #3 bottom because it's cracked (don't know how a guy can crack a peice of steel 1 1/4" thick) I think the White 508 is the same thing painted red.

BTW: we've also got a 565 3-16, just too small behind our new to us 1855.

Mine must be earlier than yours then, not sure how it would have to be set up according to a manual, as ine only covers the 4-bottom back bone, don't know if they are set up the same or not. When you have it on the tractor, how do the bottoms line up w/ the furrow tire? if the point of the share lines up w/ the inside edge of the tread, that's the important part. On ours the adjustment is supposed t be done w/ a peice of threaded rod and a bracket that it goes through. Supposed to loosen the bracket and turn that long bolt/rod to make it match your tread. Ours is rusty so we moved the bar that the 3 pt. arms hook to. It worked, but it didn't follow very good at times.

Up until the mid eighties where I live, everybody did fall moldboard plowing. Didn't matter what brand of tractors farmers preferred (I live in JD/IH territory), the plow brand behind most of them were Oliver/White. You've gotta good one.

The 565 566 568 575 plows were built in the 60's and early 70's.

The 508 546 548 588 598 plows were built in the mid 70's up to the late the 80's. If it is green it is a earlier one. If it's red it was built sometime after 1975.

Some of the models in the last group were built for Case and Ford.

I would say it was one of the best semi mounted plows ever built. IMHO

Thanks guys. My plow is green with Oliver decals. The serial number plate says something like "This Oliver-MM implement manufactured by White Farm Equipment Co." It is a pretty nice little plow. I don't have much need for it but will probably hang on to it. We don't moldboard plow anymore and haven't for a long time. I picked this thing up on a whim a couple of years ago for going around fields and stuff like that.
