Anyone out there know of any conversions for the Waukesha F283DLA (used on Cockshutt/Oliver 1650's)diesel engine's sock type oil filter to a spin-on type filter? I have my engine torn down and thought this might be opportune time to effect such a conversion (if possible).

I am contemplating a spin-on filter as they are less of headache to change, especially if the tractor has a loader on it. I am told by the boys a Baldwin Filters that the spin-on's offer better filtration as rule when compared to the "lube socks." Also less of mess when dealing with spin-on's. So if anybody's done such a conversion, I'd like hear what you have to say on it, both the pro's and the con's.

Sincerely

Ivan K.

I have a used base that bolts to the block and a nipple to go with it. Email or call 712-324-2760 if interested.

I have converted an Oliver 1750 gas, and two Oliver 1655 diesels to a spin on filter. I believe any waukesha spin on filter housing will work. I changed the nipple that the filter screws on to so I can use the larger 2-70 spin on. A good filter to use is the Fleetguard LF3479. There is a filter available that will fit the nipple that is in some of the bases. AGCO wants $50 to $60 for the 2-70 nipple so I had a machine shop make one for $15. There is one mounting capscrew that goes into the oil gallery, so that one has to have a plain steel washer under the head to prevent leaks. I personally think this conversion is a good switch. Good Luck.

I believe that the white 2-70 is also a 283 cu. in. waukesha. They have the spin-on filter housing. You should be able to just unbolt your sock type from the block and bolt a spin-on type from a 2-70 on. You might try Maibach in Ohio. 330-939-4192. I hope this helps.
