My OC-3 stalled out while the wife was using it and now will not even crank. The ceramic resistor smokes when the switch is in the "on" or "start" position. A new resistor did not help, Anybody ever have this one happen before?.....Frank

check your grounds sounds like too much amperage is being drawn thru the ceramic resistor. maybe trying to feed something besides ignition circuit
Good luck
Ron

Where is this ceramic resistor?
Is the battery low on charge?
Is it the starter motor jammed in cog, or dead?
Has the generator gone bad in a big way - like seized? VCR gone short to earth? Field winding feed short to earth?
Is there any oil in the engine?
Has it overheated?
Answer to your question is "no" in my case, but I daresay it has happened before.
Need a little more info to direct help towards rectification.
Regards, RAB

Has oil, all other questions are answered "no". I'll have to start checking wires and grounds I guess, I just hate doing electrical troubleshooting! Thanks

See the ford forum also. That resister shouldn't have any thing to do with it turning over. First thing you might do is either pull the starter and check it out and or bring in another battery and jumper cables and jumper it right to the starter and see what happens. As I said in the ford forum feel free to e-mail me if you want. I'm no expert but I do play with a lot of engines
