We"ve used a sickle mower on our 550. Would like to go to disc mower in road ditches due to gravel, etc. Very good 7" used one coming up at auction soon. Can a 550 handle it, both powerwise, and weight? Am I nuts?

Thanks guys. Had'nt really thought of the projectile issue. We have a 100 HP cab tractor I could use for mowing also, just like the 550 since it is so manueverable.

I've got a 550, and a 4 disc mower (about 5 1/2 feet)- I think the 7 footer would be a little too much to handle, and would tear up your tractor. And I'll second what RickL said- gravel is transformed into bullets by a disc mower. I'd stay away from it for ditch work- it only takes one at the side of the head or in the eye to just spoil your whole life.

No you not nuts but you due want to really what watch the gravel as you say as it will really fly at you when using it versus the sickle unit. without cab they can be dangerous doing this, been ther done that now will not do it unless in cab tractor
