Hello, recently purchased a 1973 550. Three point seems to work fine with no load on it. With Brush Hog attached it will not raise unless I rev throttle wide open. Even then, it will not lift the Brush Hog all the way. I can help lift it by hand and then it goes up. Once it is up it holds it there. With tractor shut off it holds it up for a couple hours (slowly leaks down.) Previous owner said hyd pump was rebuilt last year. Tractor also has a loader which runs off of the rear hydraulics, the loader seems to work fine. What should I check next????? ????Thanks.

Unhook the hose to the loader and install a pressure gauge and tell us what you have. You could have "dirt" under your hydrostat spool. You could have worn seals on your 3 point cylinder and that could be why it leaks down slowly. You may wind up taking the 3 point off unless your dirt is in the hydrostat spool in the external valve. There is also one on the 3 point valve. Check the pressure first and get back with us. Do you have a shop manual?

Check the linkage between the top rocker-arm (where the top link is addached and the rear of the lift housing behind the seat). There is a turnbuckle adjustment on the draft control that can cause the lift to not lift very well when a strong pull is placed on the top-link. Check the lifting capacity with the top link disconnected. If it lifts without top link connected the problem is the adjustment.

Thanks J. I will get a pressure gauge and let you know. I have the I&T manual and the owners manual. Where is this hydrostat spool? I have read the I&T manual, but am still confused. Also the tractor was recently split by a dealer to repair the pto clutch. could this be a cause of the problem? I have read in the manual that the hyd system must be bled whenever the external hoses are removed. However I am still a bit confused on this process.....Thanks
