My 550 overheated quickly today under a light load. Now the coolant is running out from a small opening below the fan shaft and drains the system after several minutes. Is it likely the water pump has gone bad? If that is the case, how big a job is it to replace the pump?

That is a "weep hole" The seal in your water pump has worn out. Now it is not a bad job if you do not have a loader on it. I want to caution you that there were several different water pumps used on the 550 tractors. I would take it to an Agco dealer and have him rebuild your water pump.Tractor water pumps are not like automotive pumps, you rebuild them rather than replace with a new pump. It probably is the original and it is over 30 years old so if it last you another 30+ years you may not worry about it. Where are you in Michigan?

Thanks. I'm near Jackson and Munith. It does have a loader. I'll call Maibachs in Ohio and see what they know. I also get parts from Diuble's near Ann Arbor. I found my I&T shop manual late last night but it is never very helpful.

I am in northwest Ohio. Jackson is not that far from Toledo. There is a good dealer there who has a ton of parts in stock for the 550 models. He has a 552 forklift rental fleet. He may have a rebuilt pump or he can rebuild yours. if you have a little time you and acess to a small press you can rebuilt yours in less than an hour. Questions: Find me on www/hpoca.org form and send me a PM with a phone number and I will talk you through it.

Maibach just needs the casting numbers off the pump and pulley and will exchange it for $95. I will probably go that way. Thanks for the help.
