I have a 2255 with 3208 CAT, when you lower the implement it has a jerking motion and is very slow to lower. I have not adjusted the flow control yet but was wondering if this could be the problem? It has perfect up pressure and is very smooth when raising out of ground. My book is a little vague on the adjustment for the flow control valve.

From your description, I assume that you are having concerns with a remote cylinder on a peice of equipment. There are two different types of restrictors on the tractor, one in the block between the hydraulic housing and the remote valves and a restrictor on each of the remote valves. The restrictor between the housing and valves adjusts the rate of raise. The restrictors on the valves located under the upper rear portion of the valve (has a screw slot in the end and a lock nut -takes 9/16" wrench- at the valve) adjusts the rate of lowering. To correct your problem, you need to adjust the rate of lowering restrictor on the valve that you have the hoses attached to. Loosen the lock nut and turn the sloted screw all the way in (clockwise) until it bottoms (will turn a long way), then back out, oh say 3/4 turn. Now make sure that you have the hoses connected so that the cylinder extends when the lever is moved to the rear. With the oil warmed up, operate the engine at the RPM that you would normally when moving the cylinder. At the above suggested adjustment the cylinder will probably move slower than desired. Now make your final adjustment to get acceptable cylinder speed by further backing out the screw but not so far that it Jerks.

Is that the same way on the 17-1955's? I also have the same problems and posted on it back in may or so. never got to it though as we didn't need the spring tooth anymore.
