Oliver 550 PTO Problems

I am having problems with my PTO. The first problem is I don't have the original bar to engage the pto. Mine is just a straight bar no button to push. Has been working that way for 15 yrs. I cannot get the PTO to fully stop and to engage it has become very hard do. I looked in the book and it shows and item behind the seat that can be taken out to adjust the pto drive. Well I can find it. So, I was hoping someone might tell me what to do.

If you have a 550 the adjustment is made through an access hole in the bottom of the clutch housing. You probably have problems adjustments won"t fix.
