On my 550 the ball and socket joint under the battery plate (LH side) is wore out. I have tried safety wire, baling wire etc to keep this together but all work arounds are unacceptable.

Can these be obtained now? I was also going to ask KENT (550 part out guy on Ebay). Manual throttle setting is not very effective :)

I fixed mine by slipping a small lock washer over the ball then welding the lock washer to the linkage. The lock washer gives the socket a new top to hold the ball in place.

Shep, yes you can still get them. I ran my '64 550 for about five years without that linkage, and finally broke down and bought one... Maibach Tractor Parts in Creston OH 1 800 808 9934. the part number for mine was WHI 25-1004921, but as J.Scwiebert mentioned there are some diffrences in the "updated" one. I had to grind a little of the arm, that is under the steering, and drill the hole out and nutted mine, other than threading it in...Hope this helps...-Scoob

You can still purchase them from Agco, I have dealer friend who does stock them, but there was a service bulletin where Oliver made some changes in that linkage. I know there are or were 2 so a serial number would help. Questions?
